Mother Mercy

2018-2019

A fastened case, I never could—

though I was living, touching, tasting

but sadly feel, I never would

by Mercy's hand, my youth encasing.

Then came the hour, she saw me outgrowing

the small, lovely room I'd been living in

a painful task she had to perform—

a painful drop, so Love could begin.

My heart is now colored, but heavy with beating

my every emotion, felt in my skin—

Burdens, joy, missing, and worry

my eyes are now open, but steady with tears.
